How do you communicate important research findings in an accessible (and even entertaining) manner?
Our University of Graz postdocs are involved in numerous science communication activities. Many of them work in STEM fields, which often has the advantage of being able to welcome people into a laboratory, or give them something to touch (or create plushy toys representing parts of the research, as Ariane Pessentheiner does!).
Today we want to feature an example of social science and humanities related research, which can be harder to grasp, so to say. Educational scientist Rahel More talks about her qualitative research in disability studies, in front of a camera, for FÄKT: https://youtu.be/m9KjI_9f9MU?feature=shared
In the video, Rahel explains how our education system often assumes certain skills, and describes which consequences this has for children and young people. Rahel More's qualitative research goes a different way: She works directly with those affected and develops workshops and materials aimed at initiating real social change.
FÄKT is an intiative of Austrian Academy of Sciences - Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) the Zukunft Österreich fund (FZÖ), giving tools to researchers to make their research widely accessible.
