Appointment training with optional consultation session

Do you want to apply for a professorship soon?  Then this workshop is a systematic preparation for the application process for professorships at universities.  Depending on your interests, different academic systems can be focused on: in addition to the German-speaking countries, large parts of the EU as well as the UK, the US and Canada.

Participants receive specific information about the frame conditions, the procedure from start to finish, and individual elements of the appointment process as well as tips on how to optimally prepare for the application process and present application documents. In addition, central elements of the procedure such as the interview with the appointment committee and negotiations will be practiced in training situations.

Objectives: Participants

• know the legal framework, the single elements, and possible variations in the appointment process.
• know how to prepare systematically for an application and how to optimize their application documents.
• know the rules of play and typical questions in panel interviews and have practiced good answers for critical questions.
• know how to prepare strategically for appointment negotiations.

Format

In the morning, a joint workshop will take place from 9:00 to 12:30.

In addition, all participants can take advantage of a 45-minute one-on-one consultation session to address individual questions – either directly on site on one of the two afternoons or online at a later time. A later appointment is usually recommended if you would like feedback on revised application documents and concepts or want to prepare for a specific application.

Language

English or German, depending on the needs of the participants. Handouts are available in English and German.

Preparation

Approx. 2 weeks before, expectations and previous knowledge of the participants will be assessed with a short questionnaire to adjust the workshop precisely to their needs.
