With the new funding instrument UFO, the state of Styria enables qualified researchers to conduct independent and independent research on new and unconventional scientific approaches, methods, theories, standards and ideas. We support promising and original research projects, who tread new, innovative paths and dare to take unconventional approaches, who develop new questions or take new perspectives at the interfaces of topics and disciplines, which are based on little or no existing data and can be developed or tested immediately within a short period of time, address questions of high scientific, technological or social relevance and create a basis for further research projects, with which young researchers can implement bold ideas, take risks and leave previous path dependencies and who have the potential for new, extraordinary scientific achievements. It is explicitly desirable, but not a must, for researchers to take risks and abandon previous path dependencies. The UFO program has a primary focus on funding research projects in the field of basic research. Only non-commercial projects are eligible.
